The global smartphone market reshuffles

According to CCTV News, in the third quarter of the global smartphone market, Samsung Electronics, Huawei, and Xiaomi ranked among the top three, and Apple ranked fourth. The smartphone shipments of the four top manufacturers accounted for 60.6% of the global market share. Xiaomi is the biggest dark horse, while Apple's mobile phone fell out of the top three, and revenue declined.

The latest data from Counterpoint shows that in the third quarter of this year, the global smartphone market shipments reached 366 million units, an increase of 32% month-on-month and a year-on-year decline of 4%. Among them, Samsung’s shipments were 79.8 million units, an increase of 47% from the previous quarter, a record high in recent years, and returned to the market’s No. 1 position. Affected by the chip ban, Huawei’s shipments were 50.9 million units, a decrease of 7% from the previous month and a year-on-year decline 24%; Xiaomi’s shipments were 46.2 million units, an increase of 75% month-on-month and 46% year-on-year; Apple’s shipments were only 41.7 million units, an increase of 11% month-on-month and a year-on-year decline of 7%. OPPO and vivo shipped 31 million units, up 26% and 38% respectively, ranking fifth and sixth.

Some analysts believe that Samsung's shipment growth has benefited from the recovery of markets in Western Europe, Latin America and India. Xiaomi’s strong growth is attributed to the performance of markets in China, Latin America, Europe and Southeast Asia, and Huawei’s resistance is also part of the reason. The year-on-year decline in Apple’s shipments was due to the iPhone 12’s postponement to the fourth quarter. The growth of OPPO and vivo is mainly derived from overseas markets such as Europe and Southeast Asia.

It is worth noting that the iPhone 12 series, which has just been launched recently, frequently broke out problems. It was accused of cutting corners, poor battery life, fake 5G, and falling into the "green screen door", causing consumer dissatisfaction. Regarding the green screen issue, Apple officially stated that it is investigating and there is no clear answer yet. Apple's customer service in China responded that the initial judgment is a system and software problem, which can be fixed through system updates.
